Theme: Literary
1. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.
2. Prophecy is most dangerous when you try to make it happen.
3. Always plan for the worst, that way all your surprises will be pleasant ones.
4. You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyway.
5. How do you fight someone smarter than yourself? The answer is simple. You make her think that you are sitting down across the table from her, ready to play her game. Then you punch her in the face as hard as you can.
6. Nobody tells us how to be men. We just are.
7. Men often mistake killing and revenge for justice. They seldom have the stomach for justice.
8. Do you know how to unite the people behind you? Loose a lion in the streets. And when panic grips the people...calmly tell them you will deal with it. Then you kill it, and order them to hang the carcass up where everyone can see. Before they have time to think, you give another order, and it will be obeyed. And if you continue to give orders, they will continue to obey, for you will be the one who saved them, and who better to lead?
9. It seems to me that kings — and queens — can be fools when they forget what they are and act like who they are, but they’re worse when they only remember what they are and forget who.
10. We all have our limits. And we set them further out than we have any right.
11. You cannot tell a man he has the power to make the earth shake, then expect him to walk small.
12. In wars, boy, fools kill other fools for foolish causes.
13. We are always more afraid than we wish to be, but we can always be braver than we expect.
14. Most of those we call heroes only did what they had to do.
15. If I could find a way to escape my destiny, do I deserve to?
16. What can’t be changed must be endured.
17. The fact that the price must be paid is proof it is worth paying.
18. There was a price to be paid for any decision he made. There was a price for who he was. Other people paid it.
19. Thus is our treaty written; thus is agreement made. Thought is the arrow of time; memory never fades. What was asked is given; the price is paid.
20. An Aes Sedai never lies, but the truth she speaks may not be the truth you think you hear.
21. A flapping tongue has killed more men than sudden storms ever did.
22. A man who trusts everyone is a fool, and a man who trusts no one is a fool. We are all fools if we live long enough.
23. Small things were important. Seconds were small things, and if you heaped enough of those on top of one another, they became a man’s life.
24. Dance with her, and she will forgive much; dance well, and she will forgive anything.
25. Hope is like a piece of string when you're drowning. It just isn't enough to get you out by itself.
26. Dead men should be quiet in their graves, but they never are.
27. Take what you can have. Rejoice in what you can save, and do not mourn your losses too long.
28. If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips.
29. Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today.
30. Let the Lord of Chaos rule.
