  1. The sky is blue and righteous in every direction. The Sun is total and burning and just right there, and today is a beautiful day.
  2. More and more everything in my life was a fix for an earlier fix for an earlier fix until I forget what the original problem was.
  3. Even getting munched on by zombies beats the idea that I'm only flesh and blood, skin and bone. Demon or angel or evil spirit, I just need something to show itself. Ghoulie or ghosty or long-legged beastie, I just want my hand held.
  4. On a night without the moon or stars you can’t see a thing, but you can imagine anything. At least that’s how I remember.
  5. The same as most prayers, the bulk of what you hear is complaints and demands. Help me. Hear me. Lead me. Forgive me.
  6. You have a choice. Live or die. Every breath is a choice. Every minute is a choice. To be or not to be. Every time you don't throw yourself down the stairs, that's a choice. Every time you don't crash your car, you re-enlist.
  7. I locked myself in the bathroom and had what the psychology textbooks would call a quickie existential crisis.
  8. There's a terrible dark joy when the only person who knows all your secrets is finally dead.
  9. You can tell people the truth, but they'll never believe you until the event. Until it's too late. In the meantime, the truth will just piss them off and get you in a lot of trouble.
  10. Seeing it down in black and white, somehow you’re always disappointed in your life expectancy. How little you’ll really get done. The resume of your future.
  11. People used what they called a telephone because they hated being close together and they were too scared of being alone.
  12. One day you're changing a patio lightbulb with a 5-year life span and realize how you'll only be changing this light maybe ten more times before you'll be dead.
  13. What people forget is a journey to nowhere starts with a single step, too.
  14. What we call chaos is just patterns we haven’t recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can’t decipher. What we can’t understand we call nonsense. What we can’t read we call gibberish.
  15. Still, just one time, I’d like to prove I know something better. I can do more than just cover up. The world can be a lot better than we settle for. All you have to do is ask.
  16. Think of this as My Fair Lady or Pygmalion, only backward.
  17. The epitaph reads: To the World He Was a Loser, But to Me He Was the World.
  18. I realize I’m stuck with my body, and already it’s falling apart. My backbone feels hammered out of hot iron.
  19. The sun we all have to share. A parking lot. Cigarette butts.
  20. This might all have a natural explanation. It might be that nobody’s going to kill you. You might have absolutely nothing at all to be terrified about.
  21. You’re that tree falling in the forest that nobody gives a rat’s ass about.
  22. I’m too much of a mess to be recognized as an escaped mass murderer.
  23. Since change is constant, you wonder if people crave death because it's the only way they can get anything really finished.
  24. Whatever my real problems might be, I didn’t want them cured. None of the little secrets inside me wanted to be found and explained away.

  27. Today is just one of those days the sun comes out to really humiliate you.
  28. Imagine how you’d feel if your whole life turned into a job you couldn’t stand.
  29. Do I need to tell you that prison makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like Minneapolis and St. Paul by comparison?
  30. The joke is, we all have the same punchline.

Theme: Literary
  1. Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes.
  2. Passion has little to do with euphoria and everything to do with patience. It is not about feeling good. It is about endurance. Like patience, passion comes from the same Latin root: pati. It does not mean to flow with exuberance. It means to suffer.
  3. It may be the wrong decision, but fuck it, it's mine.
  4. Prometheus, thief of light, giver of light, bound by the gods, must have been a book.
  5. Out of the blue, beyond any cause you can trace, you'll suddenly realize things are not how you perceived them to be at all. For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were.
  6. ...And there you have it, another body on the floor surrounded by things that don't mean much to anyone except to the one who can't take any of them along.
  7. Love of love written by the broken hearted, love of life written by the dead.
  8. What can I say, I'm a sucker for abandoned stuff, misplaced stuff, forgotten stuff, any old stuff which despite the light of progress and all that, still vanishes every day like shadows at noon, goings unheralded, passings unmourned, well, you get the drift.
  9. I took my morning walk, I took my evening walk, I ate something, I thought about something, I wrote, I napped and dreamt something too, and with all that something, I still have nothing because so much of something has always been and always will be you.
  10. Beneath all that cool psuedo-academic hogwash lurked a very passionate man who knew how important it was to say "fuck" now and then.
  11. Explanation is not half as strong as experience but experience is not half as strong as experience and understanding.
  12. Do not wake me from this slumber, but be assured that just as I have wept much, I have also wandered many roads with my thoughts.
  13. Absolutely nothing visible to the eye provides a reason for or even evidence of those terrifying shifts which can in a matter of moments reconstitute a simple path into an extremely complicated one.
  14. Not all complex problems have easy solutions; so says science (so warns science.)
  15. Quick note here: if this crush-slash-swooning stuff is hard for you to stomach; if you’ve never had a similar experience, then you should come to grips with the fact that you’ve got a TV dinner for a heart and might want to consider climbing inside a microwave and turning it on high for at least an hour.
  16. Myth makes Echo the subject of longing and desire. Physics makes Echo the subject of distance and design. Where emotion and reason are concerned both claims are accurate.
  17. I want something else. I’m not even sure what to call it anymore except I know it feels roomy and it’s drenched in sunlight and it’s weightless and I know it’s not cheap. It’s probably not even real.
  18. May I suggest you drink plenty of wine and dance in the sheets of your wedding night, because whether you know it or not, now you are truly prosperous.
  19. Me feeling dumb and sad, a bit like a broken thermos- fine on the outside, but on the inside nothing but busted glass.
  20. I will become, have become, a creature unstirred by history, no longer moved by the present, just hungry, blind and at long last filled of mindless wrath.
